All LCD TV models compared. Decide which one you need.

Some time ago I was in the same position. Investigation which LCD to buy could be a hassle. Between Samsung and LG I decided to give LG a try. But which one? So, here it is - all LGs compared, not quite side by side, but will give you a good insight what was happening through LG generations from 42LD450 to 42LD750, which appears to be the last LCD manufactured by this company. They simply switch to LED technology after 750 model release.

42LD450

- no video de-judder (you will watch movies as you used to - no frame interpolation - classical LCD screen)
- 60HZ (this parameter is a standard)
- no ambient sensor (I doubt you will use this one, but it might help in ambient light detection and dynamic contrast algorithms)
- 2 HDMI inputs
- it does go with USB but it reproduces only JPEG/MP3
- weak sound settings only bass and trebble (not good)
- dynamics contrast 60000:1
- response time 4ms
- energy consuption in Watts : 134 (more or less they consume approximately the same ammount of energy)

42LD465
- HD Divx added for USB (comparing to the previous model)
- only one USB connector JPEG/MP3/ HD Divx

42LD550
- dynamic contrast 70,000:1 (better than the previous one)
- 2.4ms response time (less than previous)
- color settings options improved
- TrueMotion (100Hz) - this is frame interpolation - good when watching football games
- 5 sound modes (Standard/Music/Movies/Music/Games) - obviously they decided to fix poor sound settings detected in previous models
- smart sound level adjustment (automatically)
- sound balanse
- USB HD Divx ???? !!! It turns out that they have removed this feature, so you need to hack something to make it work. I guess they found some problems with the previous model, and decided to remove it from production
- less energy consumption approx 127 W

42LD565 .. 760

- USB 2.0 JPEG/MP3/ HD Divx)
- So with this model they just reenabled HD playback on USB. I guess LG had some serious problems with HD reproduction. Not sure if this still works (if you need it at all)

42LD650 ... 800
- DLNA (Digital Living Network Aliance) - TV wirelless connection. enables you to watch your documents stored on PC mobile phone and all other DLNA compliant deviced. Actually, your PC laptop becomes DLNA compliant if you install appropriate software or if you use Windows Media PLayer.
- Netcast™ (not sure what this is )
- Internet connection (Youtube, Picasa, Accuweather) - This is nice feature - I love you tube and accuwhather. You can search youtube easily if you use t9. really love this.
- divx over usb .. mkv files reproduction ....mp4 ...should be good to play almost everything.
- 133 energy consumption.

42LD750 ... 850
- dynamic constrast 80.000:1
- 2.2ms
- 200 HZ True Motion
- 126 energy

So the conclusion is that I wouldn't go with less than 42LD650.
Since I actually tried LD750, be careful with true motion. I didn't like it very much. It gives movies a strange look, like they were recorded with some camcorder. And I didn't manage to turn it off. (you do have in options to set judder and interpolation to 0, but it just wont work)

Take care. I hope I helped. Please leave your comment!
